I am interested broadly in the notion of psychological threat. Past research has focused on the role of threatening intellectual stereotypes about women and minorities and the ways that such stereotypes can influence intellectual performance on achievement and IQ tests. More recently, my research has shifted toward the domain of interpersonal forgiveness. In particular, I am interested in how people respond to perceived mistreatment by others, and the consequences of these responses for people’s social relationships and psychological well-being. Current studies in this area examine the relationship between forgiveness and mental health, the complexities of apologies, and gender differences in responses to infidelity. Secondary research interests concern the characteristics and consequences of narcissism, particularly as it relates to ethical and pro-social behavior.
