The graduate training program in the Department of Psychology at the
University of Oklahoma is distinctive. As noted previously, we are
predominately an experimentally oriented program. As a department,
we are committed to the importance of high quality research, not only
as an essential characteristic of graduate training, but also as the quality
that distinguishes those psychology departments that seek recognition
as leaders of our discipline.
We are also distinctive because we are committed to an apprentice-type
graduate training model - one that fosters intensive research collaboration between
graduate students and their major professors and emphasizes high levels of collegiality.
Our program has also developed a national reputation for producing psychologists with highly developed skills
in methodology and statistics. We have a superb quantitative psychology group and they provide excellent training
for our graduate students.
