Advising

Letter from the Academic Advisor

Davetta Geimausaddle is the Academic Counselor for the Psychology Department, and will advise all psychology majors unless special arrangements are made by the student to see a faculty advisor or an advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences or University College. The advisor's office is Room 710 Dale Hall Tower, and her phone number is 325-4640. Email address: davetta@ou.edu

Each semester Davetta sends an email to all psychology majors reminding them when the next semester's pre-registration period begins, and requests appointments only for advisement. During the advising appointment, the academic counselor will review all the courses a student has completed, and all the requirements the student has yet to complete. The student and advisor work together to plan the next semester's curriculum.

All students should be familiar with their degree requirements. These requirements are printed on a check sheet that is available from the College of Arts and Science or the Psychology web site: Standard Psychology Major Checklist. The General Catalog of OU should also be used in conjunction with the check sheet for course descriptions and prerequisites, as well as a reference for general information about the University of Oklahoma. It is not the academic counselor's responsibility to choose classes for the student; rather, she serves to keep students advised of degree requirements and is available to help students with problems they may encounter in their college career (for example, explaining how to petition a grade, how to withdraw from classes, finding a tutor, etc.).

All Psychology majors must be advised prior to enrolling for each semester. If you are a Psychology major, please schedule an advising appointment with the departmental advisors. It is a good idea to contact the departmental advisors in September for Spring advising, and February for Summer and Fall advising. If you are a current student, make sure to check your OU emails to learn about advising news. It is important to regularly check your emails so that you don't miss out on important news that pertains to your studies.
