SLIS Lab Upgrades:
The School is expanding its technology offerings for students through the purchase of new computer systems for both the Norman and Tulsa computer labs. The Tulsa computer lab will be receiving two new Sun Systems. In addition to the two Sun systems, the Norman computer lab is going to house two Apple OS X Servers.
Dr. Danny Wallace, who was the moving force behind the purchase of the new machines, wanted to expand the existing lab offerings. Dr. Wallace contributed the following quote when asked about the impetus for the lab additions:
The library and information professions are faced with a constantly increasing demand to provide the highest quality information services and products in an increasingly digital and technological milieu. Access to multiplatform information technology labs supporting a variety of computer operating systems will provide opportunities for BAIS, MLIS, and MSKM students to more effectively address the variable needs of the organizations they will serve as professionals. Adding Sun workstations in both Norman and Tulsa and Macintosh systems in Norman makes it possible for students to experience the UNIX, LINUX, and Mac OS operating systems as well as Windows.
