Course Descriptions

The School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) offers two masters degrees, and one bachelors degree. The Master of Library and Information Studies, the Master of Science in Knowledge Management, and the Bachelor of Arts in Information Studies.

Both masters degrees are offered at the Norman Campus and the Tulsa Schusterman campus and many courses are available online or through flexible scheduling (weekends only, or a mix of in-class and online). Please check the individual semester course schedules for information on course offerings. Both Master levelt degrees require a minimum of 36 hours of coursework.  Students in either program may complete their degree through one of two options; passing a comprehensive examination, or defending a written thesis. MLIS students have the additional option of defending a portfolio to complete their degree.

The Bachelor of Arts in Information Studies is an interdisciplinary program that draws courses from a variety of departments and schools. This program is offered on the Norman campus and many of the courses are available online. This degree requires a minimum of 54 semester hours, including 18 required Information Studies core course hours, 21 elective semester hours and 15 hours of major support requirements. Students must also complete the Arts and Sciences General Education requirements.
