Alumni Association Student Paper Award

As part of its mission, the Alumni Association is fortunate to be available to SLIS students. One way we do this is the annual Student Paper Contest. We publicize participation through the SLIS office and lists and other means that are available to us. We are currently in the process of putting the past papers on our web site. If you were a winner in the past and still have a copy of your paper, please let the President or the Editor of Tracings know so that we can compile a better historical list than the one we currently have.

Students will receive specific notification of the rules for the current contest through the SLIS mailing list. This web page is meant as a general reference to the nature of applicable guidelines. However, the official announcement sent each year as "call for papers" supersedes this HTML document. If you have any specific questions, please contact Maggie Ryan.

The writer of the winning paper will receive $200.00 from the Alumni Association and will be recognized at the annual Beta Phi Mu banquet. The paper (or its abstract) will be published in Tracings, and announcements will be sent to appropriate library publications. The paper will also be posted on the Alumni web pages. The submitted paper may be one that was previously submitted for a class assignment in the 2007 calendar year.. The paper should not have been published or submitted for publication. Please submit a clean copy. A release for publication statement must be signed and must accompany the submitted paper. The papers will be reviewed by a panel made up of alumni association members and/or professional librarians. The papers will be reviewed in a blind review process to assure impartiality and objectivity.

Submission instructions have been updated--students submitting a paper must follow the detailed submission requirements as outlined in the Paper Submission Coversheet document.
