Assistant Professor Samuel Perry is a co-autuhor on the 2019 Distinguished Article Award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion. His article (co-authored with Andrew L. Whitehead and Joseph O. Baker) "Make America Christian Again: Christian Nationalism and Voting for Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential Election" also won the 2019 Distinguished Article Award from the Association for the Sociology of Religion.

In late 2018, Dr. Meredith G. F. Worthen in the Department of Sociology created #MeTooMeredith: a social media platform that gives survivors a place to share their stories anonymously. Since its inception, #MeTooMeredith has recieved media attention from The Norman Transcript, KOCO Channel 5, The OU Daily, and KGOU among other outlets. In addition, thousands of followers have flocked to the page and hundreds of stories have been posted.
