Miller’s Dissertation Research Receives Media Attention

Leslie Miller’s research receives media attention in The Phoenix Ostomy Magazine, the national publication of the United Ostomy Association of America, Inc.  Miller, a PhD. Candidate in OU Sociology, research project is titled “Peoples’ Experiences With Pouches (P.E.W.P.) Study.” This project examines mechanisms that impact people who have an ostomy, specifically examining the communication ostomates receive from medical providers when they first receive their appliance. An ostomy is a surgical procedure where the bowel or bladder are removed/rerouted to the abdomen, which results in a pouch attached to the abdomen for the collection of bodily waste. Miller was interviewed about her personal ostomy story as well as her study by a freelance writer for The Phoenix Magazine See attached to read about her journey as a former ostomate as well as more about the PEWP Study! Dr. B. Mitchell Peck is the faculty advisor for this research. Congratulations Leslie!
