Assistant Professor Samuel Perry is a co-autuhor on the 2019 Distinguished Article Award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion. This award was in recognition of his article (co-authored with Andrew L. Whitehead and Joseph O. Baker), "Make America Christian Again: Christian Nationalism and Voting for Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential Election", published in Sociology of Religion: A Quarterly Review. It is currently among the journal's most downloaded articles ever, and is the most cited article from that journal in recent years. This article also won the 2019 Distinguished Article Award from the Association for the Sociology of Religion.
