Gary D. SchnellCurrent Research Interests and Subject Areas Available for Graduate Research

Currently, I have active research projects involving field studies of birds, mammals, and beetles. Projects employed a number of techniques and approaches, including multivariate statistical techniques, field surveys, and geographic information systems (GIS). Graduate students in my laboratory have conduced a range of studies involving ecology, behavior, and systematics.

I and graduate students working under my direction have active projects on birds involving evaluation of field survey techniques, analysis of habitat and land-cover use relative to scale, and analysis of distribution patterns based on breeding bird surveys. Mammal studies include a long-term study of distribution and ecology of mammals of Colima, Mexico. We also have been engaged in long-term population and ecology studies of the American burying beetle, a federally listed endangered species.
