Lecturer: Professor Donny George: Former Director of the Iraq Museum
Date: Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 7:30 PM

Lecture title: "The looting of the Iraq museum"

Professor Donny George will lecture at received his PhD in Pre-Historic Archaeology from the University of Baghdad. He has excavated in the Bekhma Dam area, Nineveh, and Um Al-Agareb as well as working on many restoration projects in Babylon, Nineveh, and Baghdad. He is the past Director General of the Iraqi Museums and the past Chairman of the Iraqi State Board of Antiquities and Heritage. Professor George played a large role helping to protect and recover Iraqi cultural heritage after the looting of the Iraq National Museum. He was honored for his work and dedication at the SAFE Beacon Awards this past January 2008. He is now a visiting professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Lecturer: Professor Eugene Cruz-Uribe: Northern Arizona University
Date: Thursday, April 2, 2009, 7:30 PM

Lecture title: "From the Valley of the Kings to Philae: Ancient and Modern Pilgrimages"

Dr. Eugene Cruz-Uribe is currently a professor of History at Northern Arizona University. He completed his undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Chicago and is trained as an Egyptologist. Since that time, he has continued his research activities in the languages, religion and history of Egypt. Professor Cruz-Uribe is currently working on a field project analyzing the nature of ancient graffiti, especially in temple and quarry sites. He has served as a grant review for NEH and NSF as well as a one-year stint reviewing grants for the Arizona Humanities Council. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Humanities Council and on the Board of Trustees for the Society for the Study of Egyptian Antiquity.
