Our Mission Statement
for the OU Center for Classical Archaeology and Civilizations

> T
he Cultures of the Ancient Mediterranean World are at the foundations of modern western civilization. An examination of these cultures offers invaluable and enduring lessons for a superior international educational experience.

> Through its STEP Programs, the Center provides a series of premier learning opportunities that will contribute toward the educational growth of Oklahoma students and the enhancement of their lives as better individuals and citizens.

> The Center seeks to introduce Oklahoma students to the larger world of the Mediterranean in the context of its history and culture. Therefore, with a focus on undergraduate education, the Center strives to make the past ‘come alive’ for students who participate in its symposia, colloquia, summer institutes, seminars, conferences, and archaeological projects.

> The Center also serves as a forum for national and international discussion of multiple issues that relate to the ancient Mediterranean world. Special attention is given to new archaeological evidence and how it applies to the interpretation of the ancient past.
