Avner Raban Memorial Lectures
on Classical Antiquity The Avner Raban Memorial Lecture Series is funded by a private donor in conjunction with the University of Oklahoma and the Center for Classical Archaeology and Civilizations. The lecture series is presented in memory of one of the most successful marine archaeologists of our era, Avner Raban. He was a close friend of the University of Oklahoma and many of its students and faculty. As a scholar and teacher his accomplishments were recognized world wide. These lectures will recognize the impact that Dr. Raban had on the many students who worked with him, particularly at his most significant archaeological site at Caesarea Maritima in Israel. By going to the “In tribute and Remembrance” link on the main page you may read information about Professor Raban and his accomplishments. You will see that his life was full of significant academic accomplishments and major underwater discoveries. His contributions extend also to the personal relationships that he had with the many students and scholars who enjoyed his vibrant personality and passion for archaeology. It will be our purpose to present lecturers worthy of his memory. The OU Center for Classical Archaeology and Civilizations at the University of Oklahoma will host and present a visiting “Raban scholar” on an annual basis. The scholars that are selected are from among those who have made significant contributions in the archaeology of the ancient Roman, Greek, and Near Eastern world. All lectures will be held on the campus of the University of Oklahoma and are open to the public at large. FALL 2008 For information on special accommodations on the
