2020 IAS Symposium

Flyer for Symposium- Burning Issues: The Environment, Human Rights, and Democracy in Bolsonaro's Brazil

On April 16th-17th 2020, the Department of International and Area Studies at the David L. Boren College of International Studies will be hosting the 2020 edition of its Annual Symposium. This year’s theme: The environment, human rights, and democracy in Bolsonaro’s Brazil.

The symposium will include plenary sessions with notable keynote speakers, a screening session of the OU Brazilian Film Festival, and a regional meeting of the US Network for Democracy in Brazil.

Through these multiple activities, participants will have a unique chance to learn about recent developments in Brazilian politics and policy, as well as to engage in a nationwide movement to support freedom and equality in that country.

The symposium will also be the home of an academic workshop potentially leading to a special issue of a journal. A call for papers has been issued and the authors of selected drafts will be provided with funds to travel to Norman and workshop and receive peer comments on their papers.
