 Digital Audio
Project Guidelines

SoundForge Screen
1. Using Sound Forge Studio, please create a digital audio file to be used as a commercial advertising either the Digital Media course, some aspect of Price College of Business, or something about life at the University of Oklahoma.

Example: Speaker  Windows Media    (88K .WMA)

Your finished commercial should be 30 to 60 seconds in length.  If you would like to create one longer than 60 seconds, please get prior approval of the instructor.

Be creative, imaginative, and have some fun with this project.  If time allows, we will listen to everyone's commercials in class after I grade them and return them to you.

2. As in the example file above, please mix:
1.  at least one music file
2.  two or more dialogue clips from movies, television shows, or famous speeches
3.  at least 10 seconds of your own voice

You may record a music track from a CD, download one from an online source of your choosing, or choose from the music files in the Classfiles folders.

Clips from movies, television and famous people can be found in the Classfiles folders as well as online sites such as:

To save a sound file from a website, Internet Explorer users should right click on the filename and choose SAVE TARGET AS.  Netscape users should right click on the filename and choose SAVE LINK AS.

3. Please normalize all files to -3db prior to mixing.  After mixing make sure that your file is still normalized to -3db and that it maintains a consistent volume level throughout.  Never make the listener strain to hear you.

Avoid distortion and microphone puff effects.

4. Your finished commercial should fade out at the end for at least two seconds.  Be sure to remove all leading and trailing dead space.
5. Please save your file as these file types and with the proper lower case file extensions:
1. As a Microsoft Wave file with attributes of 22KHz, 16-bit, stereo.  The filename should begin with the words "DigitalAudio" and include the file's attributes in the body of the filename.  (Example: DigitalAudio_2216stereo.wav).

From this Wave file, please create the following four audio file types:
(Filenames should begin with the words "DigitalAudio" and include the file's attributes, as in the example above)

2. MP3 audio file using a 96Kbps audio template
3. Windows Media Audio version 9 using a 64Kbps audio template and with the Title, Engineer and Copyright fields filled in.
4. Microsoft Wave file with attributes of 11KHz, 8-bit, mono
5. Macintosh AIFF file with attributes of 8KHz, 8-bit, mono
6.

Using the Custom Slideshow feature of Adobe Photoshop Elements, please create a slideshow with your audio commercial as the music/narration track, like we did in class.  See Adobe's online tutorial at http://www.adobe.com/tips/phsel3slideshow/main.html

Please include a minimum of six photos.  There is no maximum limit to the number of photos you may use.  Please apply any type of transition between each photo and adjust the duration of all the slides to match the length of the audio.

Output your slideshow as WMV at High Quality to create a file for viewing with Windows Media Player.  Please name the file "DigitalAudio_Slideshow.wmv"

7. Please submit all five audio files as well as your slideshow WMV on one disk.  Please print your name clearly on the disk, not just on the disk case.  If you have other files stored on that disk, then please place these project files into a folder named Digital Audio Project.
