HOMEWORK 3

STEEL BEAM BENDING CALCULATIONS
DUE WEDNESDAY 09.24.1997

SAMPLE HOMEWORK

					Steel Beams Bending
    				            Parker & Ambrose P. 277
					       Problem 9.2.B
					       Problem 9.2.G
Problem 9.2.B
==========
Design for flexure= bending
a simple beam
14 ft (4.3 m) in length
and having a total uniform distributed load
of 19.8 kips (88 kN).

Problem 9.2.G
==========
A steel beam 16 ft (4.9 m) long
has two (2) uniformly distributed loads
one of 200 lb/ft (2.92 kN/m)
extending 10 ft (3m) from the left support
and the other of 100 lb/ft (1.46 kN/m)
extending over the remainder of the beam.
In addition, there is a
concentrated load of 8 kips (35.6 kN)
at 10 ft (3m) from the left support.
Design the beam for flexure=bending.
