FRAMING SYSTEMS
=================

Frames are classified as:
===================
		a. post & beam
		b. simple
based on the stiffness of the
				beam-to-column connection
		c. rigid
		d. semirigid

Rigid Frame:
Frames in which 2 or more
of the members are attached to each other
with connections that are capable of
transmitting bending
between the ends of the members.

The connections used to achieve
such a frame are called
moment connections.

Most rigid frames are statically indeterminate
and do not yield to investigation by
consideration of static equilibrium alone.

Rigid Frames Examples:
	Cantilevered Frames
		fixed bases
		cantilever
	Single-Bent Frames
		pinned bases
		portal frames
	Moment Frames
		moment connections

Rigid Frames:
------------------
	Metal Buildings
		40' - over 200'
	Industrial Building Bends:
		single - aisle Pratt truss
		double - aisle Warren truss
		single - aisle fan truss
Fink truss with lean - tos

Arches:
---------
	often rigid frames
	exceeds 300'
	classified according to hinges
		three-hinged
		two-hinged
		one-hinged
		fixed or hingeless
			girder arches
			truss arches

Domes:
----------
		tension ring
		radial ribs 12 - 48

Cable supported Roofs:
-------------------------------
		strand = wires twisted together
wire rope = group of strands twisted together
		single-layer cable supported roofs
		double-layer cable supported roofs
		cable-supported cantilevered roofs

Bridges:
----------
deck bridge - road on top of chords
through bridge - road on bottom chord
				traffic passes through
		Pratt truss through bridge
		Pratt truss deck bridge
		curved-chord Pratt truss
		Warren truss bridge
		Warren truss with verticals
Baltimore truss = subdivided Pratt truss
		Pennsylvania Truss = Petit truss
