Details are to be drawn in 1 1/2"=1'-0" on 8 1/2" x 11" paper.
Details may be drawn freehand, on the board or on CAD.
Please submit original drawings only, no photocopies, sepias or bluelines.
If the drawings were generated on CAD please submit a hard copy and the .DWG or .DXF or .IGES file on a 3 1/2" floppy diskette with your name.
This is an individual assignment not a group project.

Photo Journal:

Submit a minimum of 30 slides (in 8 1/2" x 11" transparent slide pockets 20 per sheet) or a video tape or a powerpoint presentation or homepage which summarize concrete as structural system and building material. The slides may include: raw materials, rebar, making and placing concrete, curing, formulas, terms, details, various finishes and treatments, completed projects, historical events/structures, structural components and systems, failure of structures, aging of concrete, environmental impact, proper/improper use of concrete, types of concrete, title slides, summary slides, details 1-5, group project, self portray of author, etc. Number the slides and place them in sequence to best tell your story. A picture is worth a thousand words, and the slides should be self explanatory, however you are allowed to submit the slides in a binder with an contents sheet, which identifies the slide and gives a one sentence to one paragraph explanation:

Group Project:

Research, design, engineer, purchase materials, form, pour, cure, deliver, and erect/install a replica of a historically significant concrete detail.
This could be a relief, sculpture, structure, park bench, trash can, etc.
You will be asked to form groups of 4 (four) by January 21, 1998.
By this time I should have received in writing the names of the group members. Students who have not selected a group by this time will be assigned to groups.
You also have the option to perform concrete related work on the College of Architecture Courtyard Project.
You will have to work a minimum of 8 (eight) recorded hours on the project.
To get credit for the work you have to submit the official timecards and your photo journal has to include one slide/image depicting you on the job.
You will have to provide your own work cloth and personal safety equipment and take part in the required safety training. You will report to, and follow
instruction to the dedicated job site supervisor.
This option is available on a first come basis. You have to submit a waiver of
liability and your desire to participate in this project in writing by the beginning of class Wednesday January 21, 1998.
Preliminary Design due January 28, 1998.
Submit a preliminary design, showing front, side, top view on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, in appropriate scale (perspective optional), placement location.
Final Design due February 18, 1998.
Submit a detailed design, showing front, side, top view, with all the material specifications, text, list of required material and tools, on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, in appropriate scale (perspective optional).
Completed Structure due Friday May 1, 1998
The final group project (concrete structure, approved preliminary, final design and actual concrete structure) placed on its final location.
