Notes:

Conceptual data model captures the overall structure of the organization data-independent of any DBMS. E-R Diagrams plus attributes associated with entities and relations.

Process model- well defined set of logical task performed repeatedly in support of one or more business functions. Both phyical and information processes. Examples….Model by decomposing business function into a series of processes. Typically use DFDs.

Two ways to develop ER diagrams (often use one to doublecheck the outcome of the other).

* Process oriented: start with relevant DFD. Analyze data flows, then synthesize the data model from the flows.

* Data oriented: start with relevant user views (screens and reports) then develop a small data model for each view. Synthesize to form an overall model.
