PIXIES. Out Here on the Gaza Strip

Brief Pixies bio:
The Pixies formed in Boston in the mid-1980's when Charles Thompson and Joey Santiago put out a newspaper want ad for a bassist and drummer.  The LA expats were answered by bassist Kim Deal, who brought along drummer David Lovering.  The resulting conglomerate, initially known as the Pixies in Panoply and with Charles Thompson becoming Black Francis, would become known as, simply, the Pixies and within five years would revolutionize the rock 'n roll underground.  The Pixies would release five albums, one a year from 1987-1991.  All five challenged the sound and style of 80's rock, and two--Surfer Rosa and Doolittle  would join the pantheon of rock 'n roll's classic albums.  With their final album Trompe le Monde  released, the Pixies called it quits in 1992 in the midst of alternative rock's ascendance to the mainstream-on a road paved primarily by the Pixies.  Black Francis became Frank Black, the semi-successful solo artist, and Kim Deal's side project, the Breeders released the excellent Pod and the platinum-selling Last Splash.  Joey Santiago now plays in the Martinis.  In 1997, label 4AD released the long-overdue compilation Death to the Pixies , with a bonus concert disc and 1998 saw the release of Pixies at the BBC.
