D2L to Canvas Conversion
The University of Oklahoma is adopting Canvas as our new learning management system (LMS), which will eventually replace Desire2Learn (D2L). We are very excited about this transition and believe it will allow us to elevate the quality of our online courses to new heights. We will be communicating with you over the coming weeks and months about how you can prepare for this transition, and more information will be added to this webpage as it becomes available.
Beginning in Spring 2017, all CLS courses will be delivered in the new system. To help you be successful in your Canvas courses, we have created a new student orientation that is built directly in the Canvas platform.
To access the student orientation course, as well as all future CLS courses, please log in to https://canvas.ou.edu using your OUNETID credentials (4+4 and password). The student orientation course should be visible in your Canvas dashboard, which is the first page you will see after logging in.
The student orientation will take 2-4 hours to complete and will highlight the features and functions available in Canvas including how to navigate course content, participate in discussions, take quizzes, submit assignments, and view faculty feedback.
We have created a Frequently Asked Questions document as a resource in case you run into any technical difficulties with the student orientation: ORIENTATION FAQ ATTACHMENT. If you have any questions about the orientation, you can complete a help ticket at http://cols.ou.edu/helpdesk/students/ or e-mail your academic advisor.
Canvas has been designed with the end-user in mind, namely our students and faculty. It has a clean, intuitive interface that is easy to learn and navigate in comparison to D2L. Canvas has better third-party application integration than D2L, which will allow CLS faculty and instructional designers to utilize new teaching tools in the virtual classroom. Canvas has robust mobile apps for iOS and Android that give students and faculty 24/7 access to the learning platform wherever in the world they are located. Canvas also allows end-users to create and manage push notifications for mobile devices and email addresses that will alert them to new course announcements, calendar updates, discussion replies, grade submission, etc.
All CLS courses will be offered in Canvas starting in the Spring 2017 semester.
Our goal is to make the transition to Canvas as easy and user-friendly as possible. If you have any questions or concerns about the transition to Canvas, please feel free to contact your academic advisor or respond to one of our future email messages.
All CLS courses will be transferred by the beginning of the Spring 2017 semester.
No, you will still login with your OU 4x4 credentials.
As technology changes quickly, we're constantly evaluating industry systems to determine the best options for our students. After careful analysis, it was determined the Canvas Learning Management System best fits our current students needs.
The Canvas student orientation will be available to students enrolled for Spring 2017. This can be accessed by visiting canvas.ou.edu.
CLS students and faculty will be required to complete this orientation as part of the transition process from D2L to Canvas.
