Degree Requirements-FAQ

1. How many hours are required for the degree?
126 total.
Notes: 60 of the 126 have to come from a baccalaureate (4 yr) institution. At least 30 hours HAVE to come from the College of Liberal Studies. (The actual liberal studies degree plan is 42 hours, if you have upper division course work that is less than 20 years old, it may be possible to waive up to 12 hours.

2. What are the specific degree requirements?
Graduation Requirements:

Minimum 126 total hours
Minimum 60 hours from baccalaureate institution
Minimum 30 hours from the College of Liberal Studies
Minimum 40 hours of upper division coursework
No more than 30 lower division and 30 upper division hours can be waived with advanced standing credit
Minimum Grade Point Average is 2.0

4. What are the general education requirements?PDF File

5. What if I have an Associate of Arts or Associate in Science?
If your degree is from an accredited Oklahoma institution, ALL of the general education classes have been waived.

6. What if my Associate’s degree is from out of state?
Then it will be evaluated for the specific general education classes.

7. What if I do not have an Associate degree?
That’s okay, your transcripts will be evaluated on a course by course basis.

8. What if I have an Applied Associates degree?
Your transcripts will be evaluated on a course by course basis.

9. What if I have never attended college before?
You can take all 126 hours online at OU.

10. What if I have college credit prior to Fall 1990?
Your general education requirements differ significantly: all you need is Composition I, Composition II, U.S. History, and American Political Government.
