The dates listed below are only guidelines. They are not set in stone. However, if you expect to have adequate time to complete the three (3) credit hour Study-In-Depth enrollment, it will be necessary for you to stay fairly close to the guideline dates listed.
Remember, the faculty member will need to have time to review and suggest changes on your paper. Moreover, you may need time to make changes, resubmit to your faculty advisor for approval, and then allow time for the paper and grade to reach the College in a timely manner.
Here are the SUGGESTED dates to use a general guide for the Study-In-Depth course:
Please note, you will submit your proposal to the College of Liberal Studies, attention Dr. Trent Gabert. Dr. Gabert will then assign you a faculty advisor to direct your Study-In-Depth within 5 days.
The faculty advisor that Associate Dean Gabert assigns to you will read and ultimately grade your Study-In-Depth----not Dr. Gabert. This has been a point of confusion in past semesters by some students.
The College of Liberal Studies requires a final and clean (i.e. no editing remarks, suggested changes, etc) copy of your Study-In-Depth before your graduation will be processed. Generally speaking, the faculty advisor is usually the person that forwards this final and clean copy of the Study-In-Depth to the College office.
Remember, the Study-In-Depth is like any other enrollment you have taken with the College of Liberal Studies. It is three (3) credit hours and applies to your Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies degree. It is a sixteen week, semester-long course — not a year long undertaking.
Although you have been preparing for this paper throughout the program, the length of the paper (30-50 pages) may seem daunting to you at this point. It is important that you undertake this project with the proper attitude. You have been successful in every endeavor with our College up to this point. You must not convince yourself that you cannot complete this paper. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
