The University of Oklahoma and the College of Liberal Studies congratulate you as a member of the graduating class of 2007! It is hard to believe that your short time with CLS has come to an end. However, Sooners you are and Sooners you will always be. Here you can find all the information you need to make your graduation day the most memorable it can be.
The College of Liberal Studies Convocation is a ceremony specifically for graduating CLS students. During the CLS Convocation, you will dress in ceremonial academic costume, be recognized by name, have your picture taken, and receive your official University of Oklahoma diploma cover from the Dean of the College of Liberal Studies.
OU holds Commencement, the University-wide graduation ceremony, each year at the end of the spring semester to celebrate its graduates. All summer and December graduates and May graduation candidates participate in this ceremony. Degrees are officially conferred at Commencement. Filled with pageantry, this ceremony includes an address from OU President David Boren and the Commencement speaker. Doctoral degree candidates are recognized individually as they are hooded during the ceremony and undergraduate and master’s candidates are recognized as a group. The ceremony concludes with a gigantic fireworks display.
Caps and gowns are worn to both Commencement and Convocations unless otherwise noted on the Convocation schedule. Graduate students attend the Convocation for the college where they have done their major work. Graduation candidates are encouraged to attend both Commencement and their Convocation ceremony to have the complete graduation experience.
