Spring 2013 Public Lecture

CLS Dust Bowl - Feaver-MacMinn Seminar

For a quarter century, award-winning writer and documentary filmmaker Dayton Duncan has worked with Ken Burns on some of the most-watched PBS films in history—from Lewis & Clark to The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.  Their most recent collaboration, The Dust Bowl, brought to life the greatest man-made environmental disaster in our history, using little-known footage, a treasure trove of photographs, and the searing recollections of people who lived through the catastrophe that nearly swept away the nation’s breadbasket. More than 17 million people tuned in to watch.  Duncan, the writer and producer of The Dust Bowl, will will provide a behind-the-scenes commentary on the making of the film, show some excerpts, and engage in a question-and-answer discussion about this important and often overlooked moment in American history.
