Course Overview
This course is an opportunity to earn three college credit hours while studying the cultural history of Germany by visiting historic Heidelberg and other sites in the surrounding area. Gothic cathedrals, medieval castles, and authentic German villages are just some of the sites you will visit in this seven-day learning journey. Guided by a Heidelberg-based OU faculty member, this trip offers a chance to learn on-the-ground with a knowledgeable Heidelberg native. Accompanied by an OU Professor of Art History, the trip will increase your knowledge of German art and humanities from the Gothic through the Renaissance and Baroque eras.
Located in south-central Germany, Heidelberg is convenient to other interesting and educational sites. During the program you will also visit the city of Wurzburg, founded in 741, and many of its architectural landmarks including Romanesque cathedrals and the Marienberg fortress. In Schwetzingen you will visit a stunningly beautiful castle and castle garden. You will also visit the imperial city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of Germany’s most popular tourist destinations and home to the world’s largest Christmas store.
