Are there any on Campus course offerings? There are on campus seminars scheduled at different times during the year that are open to all options of the Master of Arts degree as well as to other students on campus.
How long does it take to go through admissions process? There is no standard time frame for the admission process. It depends on the time it takes for all application materials to be submitted.
How many hours can I enroll in per semester? The College recognizes that most students are working adults and due to the work load of the courses; normally requires students to take no more than two courses in the Fall and Spring terms and one course in the Summer term.
What are the required application materials? OU Application for Admission, MA Supplemental Application, 300-500 word statement of purpose, and all official transcripts.
Is the 300-500 word statement of purpose required of all applicants? Yes.
If I already have a master degree do I need to complete the statement of purpose? Yes.
What is conditional admission? Condition admission means that you are required to maintain a 3.0 grade point average on the first 12 hours of letter graded course work if you are in an online program. If you are in the Integrated Studies option it means that you must complete the first 15 hours of course work within the first year maintaining a 3.0 GPA on any letter graded course work.
If I do not have a 2.75 GPA can I still be admitted? If you have a 2.25 to 2.74 GPA on the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work and it has been three years or more since your degree was conferred; you can submit a current resume and a 1500 word critical analysis of a book, movie, play or presentation and petition for alternate admission.
What can I do if it has not been three years since my degree was conferred? You can take an additional 12 hours of post baccalaureate courses at the Junior/Senior level (4000 or 5000 numbered course at OU) maintaining a 3.25 GPA and petition for admission.
Can I transfer credit from another Masters degree into the MA? If the coursework is used to complete another degree it cannot be transferred into the MA LS degree. If it has not been used for another degree and is not over 5 years old at the time of admission, the coursework will be reviewed for relevancy to the MA program option for which the student is admitted. Transfer credit will not be evaluated until the student has applied for admission.
Is there any masters work that can be transferred into the MA degree? Each student is looked at on a case by case basis and a maximum of 6 hours can be transferred into the degree program as long as it is not over five years old and has not been used toward another degree.
How long does it take to complete the MA? If following the recommended enrollment pattern, the degree can be completed in two years and one semester.
If I graduated from OU, do I need to submit an official transcript? No.
How are the courses administered? All course work is available online through our web based course management system - Desire2Learn. All work is submitted via this system. The courses are setup on standard semester based terms and assignments are due when required by the faculty member.
Can I qualify for the six military credit hours? The six hours are not given for military experience; they are transfer credit from the Military for Military training that has been evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE) and has been listed as Graduate credit by ACE. This will be shown on your SMART, AART or CCAF transcripts.
