Self-Paced Independent Study

Students enrolled in the Self-Paced Independent Study option can enroll in up to two classes at a time (six hours), taking as little as six weeks or as long as a year to complete each course. Self-paced courses are not tied to the academic semester, so once students are admitted, they can immediately begin enrolling in classes. When a course is completed, students can begin the enrollment process again without waiting for another academic semester to start.

Self-paced courses are completed in a one-on-one environment between instructor and student. Students need access to a computer in order to prepare and submit assignments and the ability to motivate themselves to complete courses with potentially long time-horizons between start and ending dates. However, the Self-Paced Independent Study option is especially beneficial to individuals who have shifting or heavy work schedules, work on the road, or have family commitments that may keep them from meeting deadlines associated with online and on-site classes.
