What are Liberal Studies?

Liberal Studies, sometimes referred to as integrated or interdisciplinary studies, refers to academic work in a number of disciplines that leads to an expanded understanding of the human condition and the world around us.  As a College of Liberal Studies student, you will learn to think critically and analytically and to apply new ideas to everyday life and work situations.

What can I do with a degree from the College of Liberal Studies?

In a rapidly changing world, interdisciplinary education is essential to meet the personal needs of individuals as well as the needs of society. Graduates of the College of Liberal Studies are qualified for a number of professions in a wide variety of fields, a list of which can be found below.  On average, College graduates earn more income than non-College graduates over the course of their working careers and qualify for positions with greater organizational and managerial responsibilities.  The BA degree also prepares graduates for the pursuit of advanced and professional degrees.  Finally, the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree can be an inspiration for friends and family to do the same, thereby enriching their lives at the personal and professional levels and encouraging participation in the work of active citizenship.
