1.  OU is a highly ranked university!

     +  Ranked in the Top 100 Best Engineering Graduate Schools by U.S. News for 2017

    +  The Princeton Review ranks OU among the best in the nation in terms of academic excellence and cost for students.
     +  OU has achieved the Carnegie Foundations highest tier of research activity classification.
     +  OU campus is in The 25 Most Beautiful College Campuses in American as indicated by Thrillist.
     +  OU's Bizzell Memorial Library named among "18 Stunning University Libraries Around the World. . ." by Architectural Digest.
     +  OU graduated its 29th Rhodes Scholar, ranking us highly among public institutions nationwide in the total of Rhodes Scholars.

2.  OU Chemical Engineering Graduate Program offers a very good stipend package to students on assistantships!

     +  Typical yearly stipend of $25,000, depending on project and qualifications.
     +  Waivers of both in-state and out-of state tuition for courses towards degree, usually around $ 17,000 per year. 
     +  Waiver of the basic student health insurance cost, currently over $ 1,700.
          You would pay only around $4,500 in average additional fees.
         Some schools offer higher stipends but no waivers.

Stipends plus waivers valued at $17,000 = estimated packages of over $40,000!

3.  You can enter the Ph.D. program, without obtaining an M.S. degree first, and participate in both traditional and new research areas!  

      We accept both M.S. and Ph.D. applicants.  Master’s students often stay for their Ph.D. degrees.

4.  Focusing on research in strategic areas! 

    +  renewable energy and materials – production of fuel from biomass products, thermocatalytic conversion of biomass via pyrolysis, selective catalytic conversions, triglyceride conversions, renewable specialty chemicals, photocatalytic partial oxidation.

     +  environmental remediation – CO2 capture and sequestration, water purification.

     +  tissue engineering – development of natural and synthetic materials used, e.g., in prosthetic devices.

     +  materials engineering – including synthesis, characterization, modeling and application of nano-structured materials including carbon nanotubes, graphene sheets, polymers, zeolites, nanoparticles, stimuli -responsive particles, etc.

     +  energy – conventional and alternate energy research, enhanced oil recovery, natural gas utilization, hydrogen energy systems, techno-economic studies.

     +  surfactants – nanostructures on surfaces, applications to energy, environmental cleanup, materials, phase behavior, admicellar polymerization.

     +  polymers – nanocomposities, novel composites, melt-blown and melt-spun fibers, structure-property relationships, characterization, processing, membrane separation

5.  We also have some expense paid visits to the campus for students with a GPA of 3.25 or above and located in the U.S.!

     Come in on Friday morning, visit with faculty and students, see the campus and leave on Sunday.  See how much we have to offer and how nice our campus and community are.  Just return a short message to that you are interested in discussing a visit.  Include your resume, and if possible a copy of your transcript, so we can get to know you.  In addition, students who meet the criteria and are invited in for a visit will have their university application fee paid for by the department.

7.  Norman and the area have much to offer!  

     Reasonable cost of living.  Part of this comes from the very reasonable housing expenses.  You can rent a one bedroom apartment beginning at $500 (often including utilities), either on campus or within walking distance to campus.

      Championship sports teams.  OU Football - 7 National Championships and 5 Heisman Trophy winners, Men's Gymnastics - 11 National Championships, Women's Softball - 4 National Champtionships, Women's Gymnastics and Men's Golf, and the Oklahoma City Thunder major league basketball team.
