Serving students in the Gallogly College of Engineering and the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy.

The Gallogly College of Engineering Diversity and Inclusion Program is designed to cultivate diversity of thought and strengthen an inclusive environment for all students, faculty and staff.

Our Commitment

Diversity and Inclusion 2022 Freshmen Class

Represent

We recognize that diversity is essential for growth, and to build a top-tier engineering college, we need a student body, faculty and staff that represents our global community.

Inspire

Our Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) program works consistently to create programs and events that drive awareness and further our commitment to inspire students from around the world with a variety of backgrounds to consider the exciting field of engineering. Our outreach and retention programs include opportunities to engage K-12 students, prospective OU first-year students and beyond.

Empower

Diversity and Inclusion is a priority on our campus, and the achievements of our diverse student body is testimony to that ideal. Open to all students in the Gallogly College of Engineering and Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy, the Diversity and Inclusion program facilitates the outreach, recruitment, retention and overall success of underrepresented students.

Testimonial

"I think the Diversity and Inclusion program is really a program that values and recognizes the importance of individuality and I think that it gives equal opportunities to everybody, regardless of skin color, gender, financial background and gives them each the opportunity to succeed."
 Sarah Wauahdooah, Chemical Engineering

Our Legacy

The University of Oklahoma's Minority Engineering Program (MEP), the first of its kind on campus, was established in 1980. The program was designed to recruit and retain historically underrepresented minorities in engineering and to foster an atmosphere of inclusivity and community amongst students of different backgrounds, while also providing students a network of support for their college careers. Since its establishment, the program has been devoted to promoting the Gallogly College of Engineering's ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

Over the years, the name of the program has evolved from the Minority Engineering Program to the Multicultural Engineering Program to the Diversity and Inclusion Program. The strategic initiatives of the program continue to strive to meet the needs of the changing student population. The program’s strong foundation provides the opportunity for current and future engineering students to continue the legacy that the MEP began.

Many of our alumni continue to make a difference in the lives of the DEI Program in their service on the Dean's Advisory Board on Diversity. They experienced the difference that MEP made in their lives and want to ensure our underrepresented students have that same support.
