General Commencement Information

Caps and Gowns are worn for both Commencement and Convocations (unless otherwise noted on the Convocation Schedule). Caps and gowns may be purchased at the OU Bookstore (stadium location) or by calling (405) 325-3511.

Programs will be given to each guest as they arrive at the stadium. Programs will include the names, major(s), minor(s) and honors of the summer and December 2009 graduates and graduation candidates for May 2010. Students who do not want their names printed in the Commencement program must indicate so on the Application for Graduation, or by contacting the Office of Academic Records at (405)325-4147.

Commencement Photos
A professional photographer will be on hand taking photos throughout Commencement and Convocations. A complimentary color proof will be mailed to you within ten days of Commencement along with information about photo packages for purchase. For more information, contact Graduation Photo at (405) 364-1777.

Park at the Lloyd Noble Center and take the shuttle to the stadium. Free shuttle services from Lloyd Noble Center to the stadium will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will run continuously until 11:30 p.m. Disability/Special Services parking is available immediately east of The Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Those parking in this lot should enter from Brooks Street, north of the stadium only. Jenkins Ave. will be closed from Lindsey Street to Brooks Street for Commencement.

Commencement

7 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2009 at The Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium

5 p.m. Parking and shuttle service starts from Lloyd Noble Center

5:30 p.m. Gates to The Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium open

6:15 p.m. Pre-Commencement Concert/Photo Presentation for Guests at Stadium

6:30 p.m. Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree candidates gather at Brooks Mall in your cap and gown (Master’s graduates should wear their hoods). Graduation candidates will be directed to the location of their college for the processional. Candidates will be given their alumni pin at this time.

Non-hooding faculty gather at Brooks Mall in cap and gown. Faculty will be directed to the location of your college for the processional.

Doctoral Candidates/Hooding Faculty gather at the south entrances of Bizzell Memorial Library in cap and gown.

7 p.m. Guests are asked to be in their seats at this time.

Processional of all graduation candidates, faculty and the President’s platform party into the stadium accompanied by flags, banners and music.

All remain standing until the end of The National Anthem.

During Commencement degrees are officially conferred by President David L. Boren, doctoral degree graduates are individually recognized, the Commencement Speaker, William S. Cohen, offers his address and the evening concludes with a gigantic fireworks display. See full event schedule
