As a follow-up from the last meeting on the modem pool, Lee Colaw has determined
costs for modem pool upgrades. Dividing the modems into short-term
and long-term access would cost approximately $8k. Doubling the size
of the modem pool would cost approximately $100k for installation and $60k
per year for a three year contract. This cost is mainly due to the
need to bring in extra phone lines. The council recommends DCTS divide
the modem pool into short-term and long-term access, with careful monitoring
of the usage. The council also recommends that the possibility
of quotas be discussed with students.

A document outlining the technology issues facing the university,
OUissues, was presented and discussed.
The council members made recommendations for additions and changes to this
document. These included increased emphasis on classroom technology
and research, the need for help in using proper pedagogy for technology,
and the importance of enhancing student services. There was also
a request for an overview of the DCTS budget to help the planning process.
There was also a question as to whether DCTS undergoes program review similar
to academic departments.
