Resource and Needs Survey and

Strategic Planning

A. Goals and Charge:

  1. Survey the campus on current I.T. resources (equipment, software, applications).
  2. Survey the campus on I.T. needs and future directions and goals.
  3. Identify strengths.
  4. Identify and roughly prioritize needs.
  5. Finish process by Summer 1997.

  1. Survey Process:

  1. Perform broad equipment surveys at the College/Department/Unit level
  2. Perform individual (different) surveys for students, faculty, academic staff, and non-academic staff.
  3. Survey task force is charged with writing the survey instruments.
  4. Standing committees are charged with submitting ideas for questions and reviewing surveys before being distributed.
  5. Survey task force is charged with data collection and reduction.

  1. Survey Review:

  1. Standing committees review results specific to their charge and identify strengths, needs, and priorities.
  2. ITC reviews entire survey and identifies strengths, needs, and priorities.
  3. Survey task force writes final report, to be approved by the ITC.
  4. Disseminate results with a call for comments and suggestions.
  5. External (to ITC) panel of "experts" reviews survey, perhaps throughout the entire process, and critiques the results.

Important Problems and Considerations:

  1. Need to confirm the importance and impact of this exercise with policy makers.
  2. Need to involve policy makers, stakeholders, and local experts in the process.
  3. Need to distribute results and encourage feedback.
  4. Need to revisit results in out years.
