Non-Degree Admission-U.S. citizens/permanent residents

  • Visiting Graduate Student - graduate students in good academic standing at other accredited institutions wishing to take courses at OU
  • Unclassified Graduate Student - students holding a Baccalaureate degree who wish to take graduate-level courses without pursuing a graduate degree
  • Post-Baccalaureate Non-Degree - students holding at least a Baccalaureate degree who wish to take undergraduate courses without pursuing a degree, including students who wish to take undergraduate prerequisite courses for medical, dental, optometry, or veterinary schools.
  • Undergraduate Visitor Student - non-degree, visiting students

Graduate Visitors

Graduate Visitors are graduate students in good academic standing, seeking an advanced degree at another accredited institution. Typically, these students plan to transfer their OU coursework back to their home institution.

Graduate Visitor Requirements

As graduate visitors, students have all the rights and privileges of other graduate students EXCEPT they are not admitted to a graduate program and thus, are not considered degree-seeking students at the University of Oklahoma.

  • Must be a degree-seeking graduate student in good standing at another accredited university.
  • Must complete the University of Oklahoma online application.
  • No academic credentials are required for this type of admission.
  • A letter of Good Standing from the dean, or his or her academic designate, of your home institution must be provided to the Office of Admissions.

Unclassified Graduate Students

Unclassified students are those who wish to take graduate level courses and

  1. are not seeking a graduate degree; or
  2. have not yet chosen an academic field of study.

Graduate Unclassified Requirements

  • Must complete the University of Oklahoma online application.
  • Must provide the transcript from your last degree-granting institution.
  • Must have earned at least a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.

    Important Information regarding unclassified status. Unclassified graduate students:
  • Are not candidates for a degree.
  • Are not assured future admission to a degree program. 
  • Are not eligible for financial aid.
  • Are limited to a maximum of 12 hours in unclassified status
  • International students are not able to apply for the Graduate Unclassified program.

Undergraduate Visitors

Are you currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at another institution but wish to take courses at the University of Oklahoma? You should apply as an undergraduate visiting student.

Important things to remember for Visiting students:

  • You are limited to nine semester hours of enrollment
  • University retention standards still apply
  • If you decide to enter a degree program, you will be expected to meet the regular requirements for your degree program and apply as degree seeking—in addition, coursework completed as an Undergraduate Visiting student will be evaluated in the same manner as any other work submitted for evaluation

Please submit an official transcript or a letter of good standing from your current institution.

Post-Baccalaureate Non-degree Student

Do you already have a baccalaureate degree and want to take more undergraduate courses without pursuing another degree? You should apply as a post-baccalaureate non-degree student.

  • No deadline or academic credentials required at time of admission.
  • Not required to be advised prior to enrollment
  • Eligible to enroll during advanced registration based on the number of hours earned or are enrolled in as a post-baccalaureate non-degree student.

 

Once admitted as a post-baccalaureate non-degree student, you:

  • Have your records maintained in the Academic Affairs Office
  • Are not permitted to enroll in 5000 or 6000-level courses
  • Are not permitted to receive graduate credit for 3000 or 4000-level courses
