A Tale of Three Andalusian Cities

April 26 - May 6, 2015

Andalusia—that part of southeastern Spain that owes its very name to the Arabic past (al-Andalus)—is one of the most inviting regions in all of Spain. While it may no longer enjoy the wealth and power that it did when it was the center of Muslim rule in Iberia during the Middle Ages, it remains proud of the ‘Moorish’ culture that flourished here when members of the three great monotheistic faiths worked side by side to build a sophisticated and mostly peaceful society. We begin our exploration of this storied civilization in the Guadalquivir River valley, with three nights each in Seville and Cordoba, exploring Islamic mosques and Christian cathedrals, as well as the fine museums of both cities. We end with three nights in Granada and a visit to perhaps the greatest architectural expression of Islamic culture ever built, the Alhambra. Throughout our journey, we will pause frequently to admire the exquisite gardens, to sample the olives, nuts and fruits for which the region is justly famous, and to relax and enjoy the vibrant contemporary culture that surrounds us.
