2015 Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education Scholarship Luncheon

2015 Scholarship Luncheon

On Sunday, October 4, more than 160 Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education scholarship benefactors and recipients gathered in the Sandy Bell Gallery at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on the Norman campus for the annual scholarship luncheon.

Both undergraduate and graduate students were honored for their academic accomplishments, while also having a chance to meet with some of the people that make their scholarships possible.

As part of the program, students Michael Rath, Lena Tenney and Margaret Johnson addressed the crowd, describing their educational goals and how the scholarships have helped aid their academic pursuits.

Shawn Sheehan Selected as Oklahoma Teacher of the Year

The Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education would like to congratulate Shawn Sheehan on being named the 2016 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year. Sheehan was selected by a panel of 21 state judges with education, business and community service backgrounds. He was one of 12 finalists previously named by a group of regional judges representing every part of the state. The Oklahoma Teacher of the Year program is organized by the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) in conjunction with the national competition.

A special education and Algebra I teacher at Norman High School, Sheehan received a master’s degree in special education from the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education. Sheehan has participated in OSDE’s OKMath and OKSci Leadership Program and is the founder of “Teach Like Me,” a movement to redefine perceptions of the educator profession. (

In addition to the award from OSDE, the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education presented Sheehan with a tuition waiver of 36 hours on graduate courses and 16 hours on undergraduate courses. Sheehan has the option to present the undergraduate tuition waiver to a student from his school.

Congratulations, Shawn!
