Degrees and Certification
M.Ed. programs are designed to provide beginning graduate students exposure to scholarship in educational leadership and administration, and to connect scholarship with practice consistent with the EACS Conceptual Framework. Candidates for the M.Ed. degree may also gain program endorsement for administrative certification in Oklahoma. Students may elect either a thesis or a non-thesis program.
Doctoral programs in education are designed for present and prospective administrative, service, and faculty positions in colleges and universities, public schools, and other education and training agencies in government and the private sector.
Two doctoral degrees are awarded in education at the University: the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), through the Executive Ed.D. Program. Ph.D. programs are directed at development of scholarly expertise in an area and are intended to serve individuals who have promise of making contributions to their area of expertise. The Executive Ed.D. program is directed at terminal degree preparation of practitioners in education who can be expected to serve with distinction in demanding professional positions in education.
In Oklahoma, administrative certificates are issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE). Individuals are strongly recommended to check with the State Department for specific certification requirements. Additionally you could directly view the OSDE website at http://sde.state.ok.us/Teacher/ProfStand/default.html (a contact person is listed at the bottom of the page) and click on to Administrator Certification Requirements Chart (pdf).
