All University of Oklahoma and School of Art & Art History applications and scholarship applications can be downloaded by clicking on the appropriate link to the right. REMEMBER, all students must apply to both the University of Oklahoma AND the School of Art & Art History. Students interested in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art degree must apply to the School of Art and Art History through an additional application process. Download application (PDF)

UNDERGRADUATE APPLICATION AND DEADLINES

Incoming Freshmen

  • Freshman applications for studio are accepted for Fall semester enrollment only.
  • Early Freshman applications accepted beginning December 15.
  • Deadline for all freshman applications is July 1.

Transfer and OU Change of Major

  • Students must have a 2.5 GPA or better for acceptance.  Dependent on prior coursework completed and overall strength of the portfolio submitted, students may be required to complete foundation level courses.
  • Foundation courses are sequential and can only be started in the fall semester.
  • Deadline for all applications is July 1.

ART HISTORY

  • No application is required for art history majors.
  • Transfer or OU Change of Major must have a 2.5 GPA or better for acceptance.

ACCEPTANCE

  • BFA in ART students (Freshman, Transfer, and OU Change of Major) must be accepted into the School of Art and Art History through application with either a portfolio or interview.
  • Official acceptance as an art major must take place in order to enroll in art major courses.
  • All studio majors begin as ART Undecided.
  • Art History may be declared at any time.

UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

  • The School of Art and Art History offers scholarships to students and encourages incoming High School students to submit an application.
  • All applicants must submit a separate portfolio as part of their application.
  • The Scholarship application deadline is March 15.

Graduate Admission Process

Prospective graduate students must apply to the University of Oklahoma Graduate School to be considered for the graduate program.

Official transcripts must be sent to OU graduate admissions directly. Do not send transcripts to the School of Art & Art History.

International students must complete TOEFL requirements (if applicable). Further, international applicants should review the International Student Admissions page.

Master of Fine Art in Art

Applications Due: January 15th (fall admission only).

Master of Art in Art History

Applications Due: Oct. 1st (spring admission) or Jan. 15th (fall admission).

Ph.D. in Art History

Graduate Student Degree Checksheets

Laptop Policy

To ensure that students have adequate access to the software and programs needed for creative and scholarly work, the School of Art and Art History requires newly admitted BA & BFA majors in all programs to have an Apple Macbook, MacBook Pro or PC/Windows laptop.

It’s highly recommended that your laptop has been acquired within the previous two years of starting our program and meet the specifications below.

*Students planning to apply to Visual Communication (DES) must meet the Apple MacBook Pro specifications (here) in order to pursue the degree. The specifications below are not applicable to the DES degree.

  1. 2.0 GHz (or better) dual core processor. An Intel i5 or i7 quad core processor is preferred.
  2. 8G of RAM memory (minimum). 16G RAM is preferred.
  3. High Definition graphics card-- Intel HD4000 or NVIDIA GeForce GT650 or better.
  4. 512GB+ Hard drive (minimum). A flash storage HD is preferred but not required.

To assist students with the purchase of a new Mac, the School of Art and Art History has partnered with the University of Oklahoma’s Information Technology and Apple to provide packages needed for BA/ BFA majors. The OU IT Store also has a large selection of new Apple & PC laptops adequate for our programs.
