Opening of the Stuart Wing: Installation of the Eugene B. Adkins Collection

Tulsa native Eugene B. Adkins amassed one of the finest collections of American and Native American art from the Southwest. In 2008, the Eugene B. Adkins Foundation awarded stewardship of the collection of more than 3,300 objects to the FJJMA and the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa. This exhibition showcases his impressive collection of paintings, prints, jewelry, pottery and basketry in the newly renovated galleries of the FJJMA.

Reinstallation of the Permanent Collection of Western and Native American Art

After a two-year hiatus, the permanent collection of Western and Native American art at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art has been reinstalled in the newly-expanded and renovated galleries of the Stuart Wing. The installation explores the breadth and diversity of the American West with a focus on art from Arizona, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, in addition to the art of Mexico and the North American arctic. Important works from the collections of Adeline and Richard Fleischaker, William H. and Roxanne Thams, Priscilla C. and Joseph N. Tate, Jerome M. Westheimer Sr. and Rennard Strickland will be featured. The installation also offers a preview of the recent 2010 gift of the James T. Bialac Collection of Native American Art.


 Reinstallation of Icons from the Permanent Collection

On the lower level near the Nancy Johnston Records Gallery, the Bea Carr Wallace Gallery of Christian Icons from the FJJMA permanent collection returns for its first display since the renovation.

In preparation of the reopening of the Stuart Wing in October 2011, the Sandy Bell Gallery has been reinstalled with selected works from the permanent collection of modern and contemporary art, as well as works on loan from a private collector. Works by Leon Polk Smith, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha and other important contemporary artists are included in the installation.

Familiar works from the FJJMA’s extensive holdings in African, American, Asian and Oceanic art have returned to the galleries in the Mary and Howard Lester Wing.
