Painting, Furniture Exhibition Spotlights Norman Artists

Oil and Wood

NORMAN, OKLA. – A unique exhibition that combines abstract and experimental paintings with modern furniture design debuts this June at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. Oil and Wood: Oklahoma Moderns George Bogart and James Henkle showcases the works of two Norman artists who have helped represent the cultural climate at the University of Oklahoma over the past 60 years. The exhibition opens with a lecture by the exhibition curator at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 6, followed by a reception at 8 p.m. Both events are complimentary and open to the public.

Indigenous Photography Exhibit Spotlights Native Artists

NORMAN, OKLA. – Although photographs of Native American culture have permeated North America for the past century, an exhibition of photography by contemporary indigenous artists sheds light on a unique perspective of culture. Our People, Our Land, Our Images opens April 11 at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art on the University of
Oklahoma Norman campus.

FJJMA Association to Visit Wichita Museums April 26

NORMAN – The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art Association is sponsoring a one-day bus trip to the Wichita Art Museum and Ulrich Museum of Art’s Martin H. Bush Outdoor Sculpture Collection on the Wichita State University campus. The April 26 trip is open to Museum Association members and the public.

NORMAN, OKLA. – One of Oklahoma’s beloved artists is getting statewide appreciation during the centennial of his birth. Allan Houser Drawings: The Centennial Exhibition opens to the public Friday, March 7, at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. The University of Oklahoma’s art museum is one of nearly a dozen organizations coordinating the celebration throughout the state.

Symposium to Examine Life and Work of Allan Houser

NORMAN, OKLA. – In conjunction with the new exhibition Allan Houser Drawings: The Centennial Exhibition, a symposium is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. Allan Houser at 100: Culture and Context will explore the life and work of Chiricahua Apache artist Allan Houser. The event is complimentary and open to the public.

NORMAN, OKLA. — January 2014 marks the 100th celebration of the annual University of Oklahoma School of Art and Art History Student Exhibition. The student show will go on display at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art Tuesday, Jan. 14. A complimentary, public opening reception is scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, followed by an awards ceremony at 8 p.m.
