Move-In Item Checklist
Below are bulleted lists of items and ideas previous students have helped compile in order to make the move in process as easy as it can be for you. Be sure to check back here for additional details in early Summer 2012.
Be sure on move-in day to bring your dolly or hand truck to save time and energy! As a service to you, University and Student Services, Inc offers a move-in package which grants you access to the express move-in uloading lanes on check-in day while taking all your belongings from your vehicle to your residence hall room. Items Needed in Residence Halls
- StudentID (serves not only as campus ID but also as a door key for certaindoors and as declining balance card for a meal plan and/or Sooner Sense)
- Social Security Card (for employment purposes)
- Insurance plan/card
- Bedding (pillows and pillow cases, sheets, blanket, comforter)
- Towels and washcloths
- Season-appropriate clothes
- Clothes hangers
- Alarm clock or clock radio (with battery)
- Cell phone (if desired; public courtesy phones are available on each hall floor)
- Toiletries (soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush, etc.)
- Prescribed medications
- Backpack and school supplies (pens, pencils, notebooks, paper)
- Umbrella/rain gear
- Recreational equipment (cards, sport supplies, games)
Items Subject to Confiscation
- Candles/incense (even if you do not intend to burn them)
- Pets
- Alcohol/decorated alcohol containers
- Weapons
- Air, paint, pellet and BB guns
Self-care Items
- Shower shoes/flip flops
- Bathrobe
- Hair dryer
- Cleaning supplies (trash bags, broom, etc.)
- Laundry basket, iron, change for machines
- Detergent and fabric softener
- Desk supplies (stapler, folders, binders, etc.)
- Dictionary, thesaurus
- Bicycle and bike lock
- Small sewing and tool kits
- Extra trash bags
- Checkbook, debit card
- Extension cords
- Flashlight, extra batteries
- Personal computer
- First-aid kit
Room Accessories
- Crates/storage containers/stand-alone shelving
- Desk lamp
- Message board
- Trash can
Discuss with Roommate Before Purchasing
- Microwave/MiniFridge or the Micro-Fridge (4.5 cubic feet or less - 1 per room). Learn more about the MicroFridge.
- Rug(s) as desired
- Television, DVD player (1 per room)
- Stereo
Insurance
The University of Oklahoma assumes no financial responsibility fordamages to, or loss of, the personal property of students. TheUniversity of Oklahoma departments of Housing and Food Services andRisk Management collectively recommend that students check theirparents’ homeowner’s insurance policy to see if their personal itemswould be covered in the event of damage while living in a residencehall or an on-campus apartment at the University of Oklahoma. If astudent is not covered by his or her parents’ homeowners insurance orif they wish to purchase additional coverage exclusively for thestudent, he or she may check with any general insurance agency fordetails on securing such insurance. These companies can be located bychecking your local phone book. Other options are listed below in noparticular order and without any implied recommendation by theUniversity of Oklahoma. We have no “preferred” vendor.”
