The ConocoPhillips School of Geology and Geophysics provides a wide variety of field trip opportunities for undergraduates and graduates.  These trips visit a diverse set of world-class geologic sites including the El Capitan reef of West Texas, impact structures, the Bahamas and Floriday Keys, the Rio Grande Rift, Galveston Island, among many other places.  The department offers a freshman field trip each Spring that provides declared undergraduate majors with an opportunity to learn geology in the field while getting to know each other and faculty better.

The School of Geology and Geophysics also have a variety of scholarships for undergraduates and graduates.  Scholarships directly from the School for undergraduates average over $3000 per semester and there are a number of named scholarships that provide varying levels of support.  See the scholarship page for details.

The School of Geology and Geophysics has a strong network of oil and gas companies that recruit directly from out department.  The initial step in this process is to conduct an internship with a company; nearly 90% of our graduate students gain an internship during their tenure.  This provides opportunities to work as a summer intern and learn about the industry as well as gaining valuable technical skills.

There are other ways to become involved in geology or geophysics within the ConocPhillips School of Geology and Geophysics at OU.  Undergraduates in related degrees may minor in geology.

In addition undergraduates can engage in research projects either as an independent study or a more formal senior thesis.  Although these are typically for declared majors, undergraduate students in related fields or in science education have successfully completed research projects with CPSGG faculty in the past.
