Admissions

Early Childhood Education Certification Criteria

Students are eligible to apply for full admission to a teacher education program after they have:

  • A minimum of 30 semester hours from an accredited institution of higher learning to include the following 24 hours, as defined by the State Regents, with a grade of C or better:English (composition and literature) - 6 hours; College Algebra* - 3 hours; American History - 3 hours; American Government - 3 hours; Humanities - 3 hours; Social and Behavioral Sciences - 3 hours; Natural Sciences - 3 hours.
    *other 1000 level math courses may substitute

  • A minimum of a 2.75 grade point average (OU retention and combined retention) on all coursework attempted.
  • Successfully completed the Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET) and provide an OSBI/FBI Background Check.
  • Satisfactory completion of an interview with an admissions committee.

Second Bachelor's Degree and Teacher Certification Criteria

Students should work closely with an academic advisor to ensure their smooth transfer from an in-state, two-year institution to the OU—Tulsa program.
Students are eligible to apply for admission to the College of Education for a second degree in Early Childhood Education after they have:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • A minimum of a 2.75 combined retention grade point average in all coursework attempted
  • Successfully completed the Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET) and provide an OSBI/FBI Background Check.
  • Satisfactory completion of an interview with an admissions committee.
