Frequently Asked Questions

Registration Questions


A: All new students advised through University College or the OU Scholars Program will attend either the New Sooner Enrollment Program (May-July) or a modified enrollment program in August.

A: Registration for the New Sooner Enrollment Program will begin in early April. Check the newsooner.ou.edu website frequently for updated information. Students will also receive a postcard in the mail in early April once the reservation system is available to schedule appointments.

A: Students will go to the “Make an Appointment” information on the newsooner.ou.edu website to schedule their New Sooner Enrollment Program appointment.

A: Students are highly encouraged to schedule their enrollment appointment through the newsooner.ou.edu website. However, if you have trouble scheduling an appointment online, please contact University College at 405-325-3544 or the OU Scholars Program at (405) 325-2851.

A: All new students advised through University College or the OU Scholars Program will attend either the New Sooner Enrollment Program (May-July) or a modified enrollment program in August.

A: New transfer students admitted to University College that did not attend Transfer Days enrollment in March, will schedule an appointment for either the New Sooner Enrollment Program May-August.

A: No, all students must have an appointment to go through the New Sooner Enrollment Program.

A: Certain scholarship students will go through the OU Scholars enrollment program, for more information or to confirm your scholar status call 405-325-2851 or 877-536-3793.

A: Honors College students not enrolling through the OU Scholars Program will come through the University College New Sooner Enrollment Program.

A: We encourage you to check the registration site on the newsooner.ou.edu website frequently as other students may cancel or change their scheduled appointment day.

A: Students may attend the New Sooner Enrollment Program on any available day regardless of specific major or undecided major. All appointment days are open for any major. But again, those attending the University College enrollment program can choose to schedule their enrollment appointment on a day where there is a specific college session related to their major of interest.

A: It is beneficial for you to book your appointment as soon as possible, as appointments fill quickly. However, if you have a later appointment our staff will work with you to find available courses that will work towards your degree progression.

Confirmation Email Questions


A: First, make sure you are checking your OU email account. Your confirmation email will be sent to your OU email. Second, check your OU spam/junk mail to make sure the confirmation email was not misdirected. If you still do not find your confirmation email, contact University College at 405-325-3544 or the OU Scholars Program at (405) 325-2851, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, CDT.

Cancellation Questions


A: Yes, you may go to the Registration link on the newsooner.ou.edu website to look for other available appointment days/times.

A: You may go to the Registration link on the newsooner.ou.edu website to cancel your appointment. At that time, you may also reschedule your appointment for another available day (if applicable).

Transportation/Hotel Accommodations Questions


A: Will Rogers World Airport is approximately 30 miles from the Norman campus. Enrollment program participants will need to make their own arrangements for transportation to and from the airport.

New Sooner Enrollment Day Schedule Questions

A: Check-in for the University College program Morning Session will begin at 8:00 am, Check-in for the Afternoon Session will begin at 12:00 pm. Scholars Enrollment Session A begins at 8:30 a.m. and Session B begins at 12:30 p.m.

A:  The length of a student’s enrollment day will depend on various factors (placement testing, attending the “Special Focus” session for your intended major or area of interest, etc.). However, the University College Morning Session is scheduled from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm, with the option of staying later to visit other campus offices in the afternoon. The Afternoon Session is scheduled from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm, with the option of arriving early to visit other campus offices in the morning.

For Scholars Enrollment, Session A is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. - noon and Session B is scheduled from 12:30 – 5 p.m.

A: Lunch is not provided, however there are numerous dining options available within close proximity.

A: Advisors are assigned randomly on the day of your appointment.

A: Your parents/family members are welcome to join you, although it is not required.

A: Parents/family members who attend University College enrollment will have the opportunity to sit-in on the advising session and partake in the “Special Focus” session and go through the Browsing Room information. However, we do ask that parents/family members stay in the lobby/waiting area while students are creating their course schedule in the Enrollment Services office.

Parents who attend Scholars Enrollment will participate in a unique Parent Session with OU Scholars director Christina Norman, covering topics such as the benefit of the OU Scholars Program, on-campus services, referral tools for parents, scholarships and more! Parent Sessions are held at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily during Scholars Enrollment.
