Arbor Day 2012
Each year on Arbor Day, students, faculty, and alumni plant trees to beautify the OU campus. OU has a strong tradition of planting trees: when the first university president, David Ross Boyd, arrived in Norman, he planted thousands of trees on the university grounds. He gave the trees to Norman residents free of charge, only requiring that they care for the trees. On Arbor Day 2012, students planted the 1,000th tree planted by students. The tree is a water oak, located near the Jim Thorpe Multicultural Center.
