Methods and Measures for Communication and Cognition Research

Thursday, July 10 – Sunday, July 13, 2008

Conference Registration Information

Inn & Conference Center, College Park, Maryland

Methods for studying the cognitive activity of communicators are rapidly changing.  Technological advances and cutting edge statistical methods are now available for studying cognitive processes, yet communication scholars are only beginning to become familiar with and make use of these advances. The purpose of this conference is to provide an opportunity to become familiar with these advances by having scholars present and demonstrate the latest developments in technology and statistical methods, introducing researchers to new possibilities for studying social cognition and communication.

The conference will consist of four types of sessions. First, experts in technology and methodology for studying communication and cognition will lecture on these approaches. Second, researchers experienced in the use of sophisticated data-analytic techniques will present workshops demonstrating these methods.  Third, a high density paper session will be offered for competitive submissions by conference participants.  Fourth, there will be a plenary session on Friday evening. Competitive paper submissions were received in January, and invitations for inclusion in the high density session was made in February, 2008.

HIGH DENSITY PANEL PARTICIPANTS
PLEASE NOTE:

The chair of the high density panel will introduce each set of authors and their papers' titles. Participants will be invited to engage authors in conversation individually. Authors are asked to prepare a poster visually representing their theory/method/findings. Please avoid posters with a lot of text. Some easels will be available; other speakers will post their posters on the wall (bring tacks or tape). Direct questions to mmturner@umd.edu.
