The Consortium for Student Retention Data Exchange

The Consortium for Student Retention Data Exchange at the University of Oklahoma is a consortium of two-year and four-year institutions dedicated to achieving the highest levels of student success through collaboratively sharing data, knowledge, and innovation. Founded in 1994, the CSRDE is probably best known for its annual retention studies which provide executives at two-year and four-year institutions with access to timely, comprehensive, comparative benchmarking data on retention and graduation, not available from any other source.

The CSRDE is about more than data…it’s about know how.

The CSRDE's National Symposium on Student Retention, held each fall, provides faculty, staff, and administrators an opportunity to network with colleagues who are also interested in student success. With access to the Effective Retention Practices Knowledgebase they can continue to interact with colleagues while they retrieve the latest peer-reviewed research and model retention strategies. The consortium also offers professional continuing education opportunities which can help committee members work as an effective team and develop the strategic retention planning skills needed to move your institution forward.

What we do:

We provide CSRDE members from two-year and four-year institutions with comprehensive retention and graduation benchmarks that cannot be acquired from any other source including IPEDS. In return for providing data, members receive a comprehensive 100+ page report with benchmarks, and a customized peer report on 5-20 participating peers.

We also facilitate networking and sharing of best practices through annual retention conferences, e-communications, our quarterly newsletter, and our Community of Practice.

How we do it:

Members submit their data electronically using Excel spreadsheets.

Four-Year Institutions. For four-year institutions during the 2007-08 membership year, we will collect data on each of seven cohorts, the Fall 2000 Cohort through the Fall 2006 Cohort. Members provide aggregate data on these cohorts, following them from the 2nd year through 7th year continuation rates as well as the 4th, 5th, 6th year graduation rates.

Two-Year Institutions. For two-year institutions during the 2007-08 membership year, we will collect data on the cohorts of 2001 through 2006 (six cohorts). Members track the within 1st year through 6th year completion and continuation rates of these cohorts. For some community colleges, data is submitted by system offices.
