Michael Pfau, Chair of the Department of Communication for the past eight years, passed away March 12, 2009 after an sudden illness. Michael was one of the field's most brilliant and prolific communication scholars, and one of the finest chairs in departmental history. 

Michael was known and admired for the lofty standards he maintained for himself and demanded from those around him. We are all fortunate and grateful to have known and worked with him, and prospered under his influence and leadership.

Beyond his brilliance, Michael had the warmest heart and the boldest laugh, contagious to us all. He will be greatly missed as a wise and trusted colleague, benevolent mentor, and good friend.

A memorial service honoring Michael Was held in Burton Hall, on May 9th 2009.
Those who knew and worked with Michael joined in honoring and celebrating the richness of his life, and reflecting on the many blessings his friendship has given us over the years.
