Seven awards are available:
Senior Investigator Award,
Kucharski Young Investigator Award,
Dissertation Award,
Sandra
G. Wiener Student Investigator Award,
NIH Travel Awards,
Best Student Paper Award,
Best Poster Award, and the
Distinguished Service Award.
The deadline for
the Kucharski Young Investigator Award, the Senior Investigator Award, and the Distinguished Service Award has been extended until Friday, July 18.
The deadline for
all other award was the same as the standard abstract deadline
for all awards except for Best Student Paper which is ongoing. For
2008, the deadline was July 1st.

Nominations are being accepted
for the Senior Investigator Award for Significant Contributions
to Developmental Psychobiology. The winner of this award will be
invited to give a special presentation of his/her work at the annual
meeting. This award is for current or former members of the Society
who received their Ph.D. or M.D. at least 20 years prior to the
nomination. The primary criterion for this award is a record of
significant and sustained contributions to the field. Nominations
must be made by a regular (non-student) member of the Society. To
nominate someone for this award, send the following. (1) A letter
documenting the nominee's research and scholarly contributions.
(2) The nominee's current CV. (3) At least two references or pdf
copies, but not more than four, of the nominee's most significant

Nominations are being accepted
for the David Kucharski Young Investigator Award in Developmental
Psychobiology. This award is given to honor the memory of David
Kucharski, a promising young investigator in the field of Developmental
Psychobiology. The winner of this award will be invited to give
a special presentation of his/her work at the annual meeting. This
award is for members (at the time of application) who received their
Ph.D. or M.D. at least 4, but not more than 7 years prior to the
nomination. It is expected that the nominee will have established
a record of publications (including in press articles) that are
independent and exceptional contributions to the field of Developmental
Psychobiology. Criteria for this award are: record of academic accomplishments;
promise of the applicant for a career in Developmental Psychobiology.
Nominations may be made only by a regular (non-student) member of
the Society.

for the Dissertation Award to honor outstanding scientists early
in their careers and to help defray costs of attending the meeting.
Criteria for this award are: originality and significance of the
dissertation research; quality of the dissertation summary; promise
of the applicant for a career in Developmental Psychobiology. The
winner of this award will be invited to give a special presentation
of his/her dissertation at the annual meeting. The winner must be
a member of ISDP. Nominees must have successfully completed their
doctoral defense and been granted their degree within 18 months
prior to the nomination. Nominations may be made only by a regular
(non-student) member of the Society. To nominate someone for this
award, send the following by email: (1) A letter discussing the
quality of the nominee's dissertation research. (2) The nominee's
current CV. (3) A summary of the dissertation, not to exceed 7 double-spaced
pages. (4) A copy of the abstract identical to that submitted to

A number of travel awards
are available in memory of Sandra Wiener to help defray costs of
graduate students attending the annual meeting of ISDP. These awards
honor Sandy for her interest and concern for students and her dedication
and affection for ISDP.
Criteria:
(1) Each applicant must be currently enrolled as a bona fide graduate
student, be first author of a presentation, and be a member of ISDP
at the time of application.
(2) Originality and significance
of the research; quality of the abstract; overall academic record;
and commitment to the field of Developmental Psychobiology.
(3) Past winners of the Wiener Award are not eligible.

a Sandra G. Wiener Award should submit the following material:
(1) A letter of recommendation and documentation of student status
from the research advisor or laboratory director. The level of independence
of the student's contribution should be addressed in the letter.
(2) A current CV. (3) A copy of the abstract identical to that submitted
to the Program Director. Submit 3 documents electronically to Dr.

(1) Application guidelines and materials are identical to those
required for the Sandra G. Wiener Award (see above), however, applications
for NIH awards are open to candidates who are undergraduates, graduate
students or post-doctoral fellows at the time of the meeting. (2)
Winners must be an author on an abstract, but not necessarily the
first author on the abstract. However, the number of students (or
postdocs) on a single abstract who may apply for the award is limited
to one. (3) Winners must be members of ISDP. (4) Previous winners
of the NIH Travel Award (previously Government Travel Award) and
of the Sandra G. Wiener Award are encouraged to apply, though in
the case of ties, preference will be given to those applicants that
have not previously won an NIH Travel Award. (5) Originality and
significance of the research; quality of the abstract; overall academic
record; and commitment to the field of Developmental Psychobiology.
Those wishing to be considered for
a NIH Travel Award should submit the following material:
(1) A letter of recommendation and documentation of student or postdoc
status from the research advisor or laboratory director. The level
of independence of the applicant's contribution should be addressed
in the letter. (2) Current CV. (3) Copy of the abstract identical
to that submitted to the Program Director. Please note that the
recommender may send the letter of recommendation separately from

The Hennessy-Smotherman
Best Student Paper Award will be made for the best paper by a student
published in Developmental Psychobiology over a one year period.
The goals of the award are: (1) to promote the hightest quality
of student research in the field of developmental psychobiology,
and (2) to encourage students in the field to submit their best
work to Developmental Psychobiology.
The winner will be awarded
a $500 prize and will have his/her name announced at the annual
meeting.
1. The research must have been completed before the PhD was awarded.
2. The student must be first author.
3. The manuscript must have been submitted within 3 years of receiving
the PhD.
The criteria for judging
will include scientific significance, originality, and presentation
style. Neither the contestant nor advisor need to attend the annual
meeting or to be a member of the Society to be eligible (though
both attendance and membership are encouraged). To identify yourself
as a candidate, include a request for your manuscript to be considered
when you submit your manuscript to Dr. George Michel, Editor-in-Chief,
Developmental Psychobiology. Requests to be considered for this

a student (undergraduate, graduate) or postdoctoral fellow at the
time the research was conducted, and be first (presenting) author.
Award criteria are based on the quality and originality of the research
and the quality of the presentation during the poster session. The
poster award selection committee will be appointed by the ISDP executive
committee and judges will include ISDP members and invited speakers.
The winners will be announced at the business meeting at the conclusion
of the ISDP meeting.
